President Erdoğan Hails Islamabad Memorandum as Key Step for Global Peace, Reaffirms Support for Pakistan

ISTANBUL: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Saturday described the Islamabad Memorandum as an important initiative for global peace, reaffirming Türkiye’s continued support for efforts aimed at promoting regional stability, peace and prosperity.

Addressing a joint press conference with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Istanbul, President Erdoğan said Pakistan’s initiatives for peace were commendable and emphasized that Türkiye would continue to back all sincere efforts contributing to global and regional harmony.

The Turkish president welcomed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his delegation, stating that the two leaders held comprehensive discussions on bilateral relations, regional developments and international issues of mutual interest. They also reviewed avenues for expanding trade, investment and economic cooperation between the two countries.

President Erdoğan expressed satisfaction over the growing momentum in Pakistan-Türkiye relations and said both countries would continue to stand by each other. He added that the relevant ministries would maintain close coordination on the development of Special Economic Zones and other areas of mutual cooperation.

Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif thanked President Erdoğan for the warm welcome and generous hospitality, describing the relationship between Pakistan and Türkiye as one founded on deep historical, cultural and brotherly ties. He recalled Türkiye’s unwavering support for Pakistan during times of war and natural disasters, including assistance provided to flood-affected and earthquake-hit regions.

The prime minister also expressed gratitude for Türkiye’s continued cooperation in supporting Pakistan’s social and economic development, reaffirming Islamabad’s commitment to further strengthening the longstanding strategic partnership between the two countries.
