India’s Cockroach Janta Party Demands Release of Detained Student Protesters

New Delhi: India’s youth-led Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has called for the immediate release of student protesters allegedly detained in several states, warning that no lasting resolution to the country’s education protest movement will be possible unless all demonstrators are freed and legal action against them is withdrawn.

In a statement issued on Monday, the CJP said it had received reports that students and activists remained in custody in the states of Assam, West Bengal, and Bihar despite recent government concessions following weeks of nationwide demonstrations over examination reforms and youth unemployment. The movement demanded the unconditional release of all detainees and the withdrawal of cases filed against peaceful protesters.

The protests, led largely by students and young graduates, were initially sparked by allegations of examination irregularities and paper leaks but quickly evolved into a broader campaign highlighting unemployment, transparency, and governance issues. The demonstrations prompted the Indian government to announce reforms to the examination system and accept the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

The CJP maintained that while the government’s recent policy announcements represented an important step, justice would remain incomplete until all detained protesters were released and participants were protected from further legal action. The group said it would continue to monitor developments and maintain pressure on authorities to fulfill the movement’s remaining demands.

The movement has emerged as one of India’s most significant youth-led protest campaigns in recent years, drawing widespread public attention and reshaping the national political debate on education, employment, and accountability. Political analysts say its rapid growth has demonstrated the increasing influence of young Indians in shaping public discourse and government policy.
