LONDON: Amber weather warnings for extreme heat have come into force across parts of the United Kingdom as a significant heatwave pushes temperatures to potentially record-breaking levels, the Met Office confirmed.

According to Sky News reporting, the amber alerts now cover large areas of England and Wales over several days, with forecasters warning that temperatures could rise as high as 38°C (100°F) in some regions during the peak of the heatwave.

The Met Office said the current weather system is part of a wider spell of hot and humid conditions affecting much of Western Europe, with the UK expected to experience some of its highest June temperatures in decades.
