Angela Eagle Appointed UK Security Minister Following Cabinet Reshuffle

LONDON: British lawmaker Angela Eagle has been appointed as the United Kingdom’s new Security Minister, the government announced on Friday, following a ministerial reshuffle prompted by recent changes within the Cabinet.

Eagle succeeds Dan Jarvis, who was appointed Defence Minister on Thursday as part of Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s efforts to strengthen the government’s leadership team amid ongoing political and security challenges.

The appointment places Eagle in charge of a key portfolio responsible for overseeing national security matters, counterterrorism policy, border security, and coordination with intelligence and law enforcement agencies.

A senior member of the governing Labour Party, Eagle brings extensive parliamentary experience to the role, having served in a variety of ministerial and shadow cabinet positions during her political career.

The government said the transition would ensure continuity in the administration’s approach to national security while supporting broader efforts to address evolving domestic and international security threats.

The latest appointments come amid heightened focus on defence and security policy as the government seeks to respond to an increasingly complex global security environment.
