Baku Declaration Adopted at 20th Session of OIC Parliamentary Union Conference

BAKU — The Baku Declaration was unanimously adopted during the 20th Session of the Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC), reaffirming member states’ commitment to strengthening cooperation, promoting peace, and addressing emerging global challenges facing the Muslim world.

The text of the declaration was presented by Azerbaijani Member of Parliament Jeyhun Mammadov during the concluding session of the conference.

The declaration reaffirmed the commitment of participating states to the objectives and principles enshrined in the Charter of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States. It also reiterated adherence to the goals and principles of the Charter of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the United Nations Charter, and international law.

Delegates emphasized the importance of multilateral cooperation and respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, and international legal norms as essential foundations for global peace and stability.

Addressing contemporary security concerns, the declaration expressed deep concern over the growing number of complex challenges and evolving threats confronting nations worldwide. These include cyberattacks, terrorism, extremism, and the increasing manifestations of Islamophobia.

The participants warned that such threats undermine international peace and security, weaken social cohesion, and negatively affect peaceful coexistence among communities. The declaration highlighted the need for coordinated international efforts to counter these challenges and promote tolerance, dialogue, and mutual understanding.

The conference also underscored the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in addressing global issues, strengthening cooperation among OIC member states, and advancing the interests of Muslim communities around the world.

The adoption of the Baku Declaration marks the culmination of discussions held during the parliamentary gathering, which brought together lawmakers from across the Islamic world to deliberate on regional and international issues of common concern.
