Stockholm Marathon Website Crashes Hours Before Race Start, Organizers Assure Participants

Stockholm: The official website of the Stockholm Marathon experienced an outage just hours before the start of the annual race, creating challenges for participants and spectators seeking event information and live updates.

Despite the technical disruption, organizers confirmed that the marathon would proceed as planned, with approximately 25,000 runners registered to take part in this year’s event across central Stockholm.

Sebastian Wallin, Communications Manager at Marathongruppen, said technical teams were working to identify and resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

“We know they are working on it and identifying the cause. It is, of course, a high load and we have prepared for different types of scenarios,” Wallin said shortly before the race began, expressing confidence that the problem would be fixed soon.

Organizers advised participants and supporters to use the official marathon mobile application, which remained operational, to follow runners’ progress and access race-related information. While updates regarding the outage were shared through Instagram Stories, information had not yet been posted on the event’s official Facebook page.

The marathon is expected to take place under favorable weather conditions, with sunny skies and temperatures slightly above 20 degrees Celsius.

Encouraging participants ahead of the race, Wallin urged runners to pace themselves and listen to their bodies. He also expressed hope that residents of Stockholm would line the streets to support the competitors, while organizers continue efforts to ensure the best possible race conditions throughout the event.
