United States Beat Bosnia-Herzegovina 2-0 to Reach FIFA World Cup Round of 16

SANTA CLARA: The United States secured a place in the FIFA World Cup Round of 16 with a determined 2-0 victory over Bosnia-Herzegovina on Wednesday, overcoming the challenge of playing with 10 men for the final stages of the match.

Forward Folarin Balogun gave the hosts the lead in first-half stoppage time, scoring his third goal of the tournament. However, the striker was shown a straight red card in the 64th minute following a VAR review, forcing the Americans to play the remainder of the match with a numerical disadvantage.

Despite the setback, the United States maintained its composure and defended resolutely against Bosnia-Herzegovina’s attempts to find an equaliser. Midfielder Malik Tillman sealed the victory in the 82nd minute with a well-taken free kick, ensuring the Americans progressed to the knockout stage.

The victory marked the United States’ first FIFA World Cup knockout-stage win in 24 years and kept alive the co-host nation’s hopes of making a deep run in the tournament. However, Balogun will miss the next match due to suspension following his dismissal.
