British TikToker Faces Murder Charge and Possible Death Penalty in Dubai

DUBAI: A 23-year-old British TikTok influencer has been charged with premeditated murder in the United Arab Emirates after the fatal stabbing of a British man, a case that could carry the death penalty if she is convicted under UAE law.

Brooke George, from Gravesend in Kent, is accused of killing a 26-year-old British man whom she had met online before travelling to Dubai to pursue a relationship. George maintains that she acted in self-defence after allegedly being subjected to a violent assault and fearing for her life.

The human rights organisation Detained in Dubai, which is assisting George, said she had endured repeated abuse by the man during her second visit to the UAE. According to the group, George attempted to leave the country following the incident but was arrested at Dubai International Airport. The organisation has urged authorities to investigate her allegations of domestic violence alongside the homicide case and to grant her bail while legal proceedings continue.

George’s family has expressed concern over her welfare, alleging that she suffered visible injuries before her arrest and has faced difficulties accessing legal representation and British consular assistance while in custody. Britain’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office confirmed it is supporting the family and is in contact with the UAE authorities regarding the case.

Under UAE law, premeditated murder is punishable by death, although death sentences are often commuted to lengthy prison terms. The case has drawn significant international attention, with rights groups calling for a thorough and impartial investigation into George’s claims that she acted in self-defence.
