France to Phase Out Palantir Tools as DGSI Shifts Toward Domestic AI Firm ChapsVision

PARIS: France’s domestic intelligence agency, the DGSI, will gradually replace technology provided by U.S. data analytics company Palantir Technologies with systems developed by French firm ChapsVision, according to the French Prime Minister’s office.

Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu announced that ChapsVision has been selected to eventually substitute Palantir’s tools within DGSI operations. However, officials emphasized that the transition will take several years to ensure continuity and avoid any operational gaps.

Palantir’s existing contract with DGSI, renewed at the end of 2025 and running for several more years, will remain in force during the transition period. French authorities said both systems may operate in parallel until ChapsVision’s platform is fully integrated.

In a statement on social media platform X, Lecornu stressed the importance of reducing dependence on foreign technology in sensitive national security operations, arguing that France must strengthen its own digital and artificial intelligence capabilities to avoid “strategic dependencies.”

The move reflects a broader European trend of reassessing reliance on U.S. technology providers in critical infrastructure and security sectors. Countries including Germany and the United Kingdom have recently taken steps to review or reduce their engagement with Palantir systems amid political and procurement scrutiny.

Palantir, co-founded by billionaire Peter Thiel with early backing from U.S. intelligence agencies, provides advanced data integration and AI-driven analytics tools widely used by governments and security services.

While ChapsVision did not immediately comment on the decision, French officials described the transition as part of a long-term strategy to strengthen domestic technological sovereignty in the face of growing geopolitical uncertainty and evolving transatlantic relations.
