Passenger Train Derails in Southern England, Leaving 11 Injured

LONDON: A passenger train derailed in southern England on Thursday, leaving 11 people injured after three carriages overturned, according to British authorities.

The Southern Rail service was traveling from London Victoria to Eastbourne when it derailed near Lewes in East Sussex. The train was carrying around 150 passengers at the time of the incident.

Two people sustained serious injuries, while nine others suffered less serious injuries, the South East Coast Ambulance Service said. Emergency services, including firefighters, police officers, paramedics and ambulances, were dispatched to the scene and worked to evacuate passengers from the overturned carriages.

The derailment was declared a major incident, with authorities launching an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. The cause of the derailment remained unclear.

Rail services through the affected area were disrupted as emergency crews responded to the incident and authorities assessed damage to the railway infrastructure.

The Rail Accident Investigation Branch is investigating the derailment, while railway authorities are working to determine when services can safely resume.
