Queen Camilla Says Keeping King Charles’ Cancer Diagnosis Private Was Difficult

LONDON: Queen Camilla has spoken about the emotional challenge of keeping King Charles’ cancer diagnosis private before Buckingham Palace publicly announced it in February 2024.

Speaking in a video released by cancer support charity Maggie’s, where she serves as president, Camilla recalled that she came close to revealing the diagnosis during a visit to one of the charity’s centres but ultimately decided not to disclose the information because of the sensitive circumstances.

Camilla praised the King’s resilience and determination during his treatment, saying he continued working and remained active despite undergoing cancer care. King Charles has continued treatment but has been able to reduce its intensity following early detection and effective intervention, according to Reuters.

The remarks were made as Maggie’s marks its 30th anniversary. Camilla also highlighted the importance of supporting families and loved ones of people affected by cancer.

The public disclosure of the King’s diagnosis, along with Princess Catherine’s announcement of her own cancer diagnosis, has helped raise awareness and encouraged greater openness around the disease, the charity said.
