UAE Says Iran Launched Two Ballistic Missiles Targeting Maritime Traffic

DUBAI: The United Arab Emirates’ Defence Ministry said on Tuesday that it had detected two ballistic missiles launched from Iran, marking the first such reported incident since a missile strike on Fujairah port in May.

The ministry said both missiles fell into the sea and, based on its assessment, were aimed at maritime traffic. No casualties or damage were reported.

The reported missile launches came amid heightened tensions between Iran and the United States and growing disruption to shipping through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.

The incident further raised concerns over the security of commercial maritime traffic and regional energy supplies, as efforts to revive diplomatic talks between Washington and Tehran faced renewed difficulties.

The UAE has repeatedly called for the protection of freedom of navigation and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a major global energy shipping route.
