Russia Accuses U.S. of Failing to Honor Trump-Putin Understandings on Ukraine

Moscow: Russia has accused the United States of failing to follow through on unspecified “understandings” reached between President Vladimir Putin and President Donald Trump during their summit in Alaska last year, signaling growing frustration in Moscow over the state of bilateral diplomacy.

Over the past several days, senior Russian officials, including Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov, have publicly complained that Washington has not delivered on commitments they say were discussed during the Putin-Trump meeting. However, Russian authorities have not disclosed the exact nature of the alleged understandings.

The criticism comes amid renewed tensions over the war in Ukraine, with Moscow pointing to increased Western military support for Kyiv and recent Ukrainian drone attacks inside Russian territory. Russian officials argue that recent U.S. actions contradict what they describe as the “spirit” of previous discussions between the two leaders.

According to Reuters, some Russian officials had hoped that Trump’s diplomatic outreach would result in arrangements more favorable to Moscow’s objectives in Ukraine.
