Russian Missile Strike on Kyiv Kills Two, Injures Several in Renewed Overnight Attack

KYIV: At least two people were killed and six others injured, including a 16-year-old, after Russian ballistic missiles struck multiple districts of Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, during an overnight attack, Ukrainian officials said on Wednesday. The assault marked the latest escalation in Russia’s sustained air campaign against the country.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said emergency services were deployed after explosions were reported across the city. The strikes triggered fires in storage facilities and warehouses, while debris damaged trucks and other infrastructure in several districts. Authorities later lifted the air raid alert after assessing the immediate threat had passed.

The Sviatoshynskyi district was among the hardest hit, where a warehouse caught fire following the missile strike. Rescue teams worked through the night to extinguish the blazes and assist those affected by the attack.

The missile barrage also extended beyond the capital, with the southern port city of Odesa reporting damage to an educational facility. Local authorities said emergency responders were assessing the full extent of the destruction.

The attack was the sixth missile and drone assault on Kyiv in July, underscoring the continued intensity of Russia’s strikes on Ukrainian cities. The latest bombardment comes amid heightened hostilities, with both Russia and Ukraine increasingly targeting military and strategic infrastructure as the conflict continues.
