Tajikistan Hails UN Adoption of International Decade for Peace, Reaffirms Commitment to Global Stability

DUSHANBE: President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, has hailed the adoption of the United Nations General Assembly resolution proclaiming the “International Decade of Strengthening of Peace for Future Generations (2027–2036),” describing it as a historic achievement for Tajikistan and peace-loving nations across the world.

In a nationwide address, the President congratulated the people of Tajikistan on the landmark diplomatic success and expressed sincere appreciation to all friendly countries, international partners, and organizations that supported Tajikistan’s initiative, which was formally adopted by the UN General Assembly.

President Rahmon said the resolution underscores the importance of promoting a global culture of peace through conflict prevention, tolerance, dialogue among civilizations, and mutual understanding. He stressed that lasting peace extends beyond the absence of war and must be founded on responsibility, respect for human dignity, justice, and equal opportunities for all.

Highlighting the importance of educating younger generations, the President said adolescents and youth must be taught the values of peace, cooperation, and tolerance, emphasizing that the decisions made today will determine the future of humanity.

Reflecting on Tajikistan’s own history, President Rahmon recalled the devastating impact of the civil war that followed the country’s independence, noting that peace, political stability, and national unity were achieved through the wisdom and resilience of the Tajik people. He said these achievements laid the foundation for the country’s economic development, social progress, cultural preservation, and active participation in addressing global challenges, including international water cooperation and glacier protection.

The President also pointed to Tajikistan’s historical legacy as a crossroads of civilizations, where peaceful coexistence, cultural diversity, and dialogue have flourished for centuries. He noted that this rich heritage continues to inspire the country’s international peace initiatives.

Rahmon further recalled that, at Tajikistan’s initiative, the UNESCO General Conference adopted a resolution last year recognizing the “Cyrus Cylinder: an early charter of human rights and cultural diversity,” describing it as further evidence of the ancient roots of peace, harmony, and mutual understanding within the region’s civilization.

The President also congratulated citizens on the upcoming National Unity Day, calling it one of the greatest achievements in the country’s modern history. He noted that this year’s celebrations coincide with preparations for the 35th anniversary of Tajikistan’s State Independence, describing national unity as the cornerstone of the country’s stability, sovereignty, and continued development.

Emphasizing the importance of education, innovation, digitalization, artificial intelligence, and scientific advancement, Rahmon said raising educational standards and promoting enlightenment remain essential to combating extremism, strengthening national security, and ensuring sustainable development.

President Rahmon announced that Tajikistan plans to host a high-level international conference in Dushanbe next year, in cooperation with the United Nations and partner countries, to officially launch implementation of the International Decade of Strengthening of Peace for Future Generations (2027–2036) ahead of the 30th anniversary of National Unity Day.

Concluding his address, the President reaffirmed Tajikistan’s unwavering commitment to preserving peace, stability, and national unity while promoting international cooperation. He expressed hope that the newly adopted UN resolution would strengthen friendship among nations, expand the global culture of peace, and contribute to building a safer, more just, and prosperous world for present and future generations.
