Wildfires Force Evacuations Across US West as Extreme Heat and Red Flag Warnings Spread

WASHINGTON: Multiple wildfires fueled by extreme heat, strong winds, and prolonged drought have triggered evacuations across parts of the western United States, including Utah and Arizona, while red flag warnings have been issued in several states, authorities said.

In Utah, the rapidly spreading Iron Fire has burned tens of thousands of acres and forced the evacuation of the small town of Eureka, along with nearby rural areas. Fire officials said the blaze remains largely uncontained as shifting winds and dry vegetation continue to accelerate its spread.

In Arizona, a separate wildfire near Sedona has burned hundreds of acres of rugged terrain, prompting additional evacuation orders. Fire crews are working to contain the blaze, but officials warned that weather conditions remain highly unfavorable.

Meanwhile, parts of Colorado are under red flag warnings, indicating critical fire weather conditions characterized by low humidity and strong winds that significantly increase wildfire risk. Authorities have urged residents to remain alert and follow all evacuation guidance if issued.

In Florida, officials are also monitoring multiple brush fires driven by dry conditions and gusty winds, highlighting the widespread nature of the fire risk across both western and southeastern states.

Meteorologists say the ongoing heat wave, combined with persistent drought conditions across large portions of the United States, is creating one of the most active early-summer wildfire periods in recent years. Fire agencies continue to warn that conditions could worsen in the coming days.
