US Launches Fresh Strikes on Iran After Deadly Attack Kills Two American Service Members

WASHINGTON: The United States has launched a new wave of military strikes against Iran after two U.S. military personnel were killed in an Iranian missile and drone attack on a military installation in Jordan, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict between the two countries.

According to the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), the latest strikes were authorized by President Donald Trump and were aimed at degrading Iran’s military capabilities, particularly its ability to threaten international shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. U.S. officials said the operation was also intended to hold those responsible for the attack on American forces accountable.

The Pentagon confirmed that two U.S. service members were killed while another remains missing following the Iranian attack on the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan. The incident represents one of the deadliest direct attacks on U.S. forces since the current conflict intensified.

Iran, however, rejected U.S. claims regarding the effectiveness of the strikes, stating that they caused neither significant casualties nor major damage to military infrastructure. Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei condemned the renewed attacks, accusing Washington of violating previous commitments and further escalating regional tensions.

The latest exchange comes after a ceasefire collapsed last week, triggering a sharp increase in hostilities. Iran has launched missile and drone attacks targeting U.S. military facilities in Jordan, Kuwait, Bahrain, and other Gulf locations, while the United States has continued air operations against Iranian military targets.

The escalating confrontation has heightened concerns over the security of the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic maritime route through which nearly one-fifth of the world’s oil supply passes. The United States has reinforced its military presence in the area, while Gulf states and the European Union have urged all parties to prevent further escalation and safeguard international shipping.
