Lahore: Pakistan Test captain Babar Azam has equaled a historic record previously held by legendary cricketers Imran Khan and Wasim Akram after claiming his 10th Player of the Series award in international cricket following Pakistan’s drawn Test series against the West Indies.
Pakistan leveled the two-match Test series 1-1 by defeating the West Indies by eight wickets in the second Test. Babar played a pivotal role throughout the series, scoring 193 runs in four innings at an impressive average of 96.50, making him the highest run-scorer of the series.
The Pakistan skipper registered scores of 23, a responsible half-century, 88, and an unbeaten 24 off 30 balls across the two-Test contest, delivering consistent performances that earned him a share of the Player of the Series award alongside West Indies all-rounder Justin Greaves.
The accolade marked Babar Azam’s first Player of the Series award in Test cricket and the 10th of his international career. Before this achievement, he had won the award five times in Twenty20 Internationals and four times in One-Day Internationals.
With his latest honor, Babar has drawn level with former Pakistan captains Imran Khan and Wasim Akram, who also won 10 Player of the Series awards during their international careers. Former fast bowler Waqar Younis follows closely with nine such awards.
The milestone further cements Babar Azam’s place among Pakistan’s most accomplished cricketers and highlights his continued influence as one of the country’s premier performers across formats.
