London: British actor, writer and director Noel Clarke pleaded not guilty on Wednesday to six sexual offence charges at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London.
The 50-year-old entered not guilty pleas to all counts, which comprise two charges of sexual assault, three of voyeurism and one of exposure. The charges relate to five women and concern alleged offences said to have taken place between 2007 and 2016. Clarke is due to make his next court appearance on November 18.
The Metropolitan Police charged Clarke last month after the Crown Prosecution Service authorised the case following a review of the evidence gathered by investigators. The police inquiry was opened in September 2025. A senior CPS London prosecutor said at the time that the service had concluded there was sufficient evidence to bring the case to court and that a prosecution was in the public interest. Detective Superintendent Mike Cagney, who led the investigation, said the women involved were being supported by specially trained officers.
Clarke is best known for his role as Mickey Smith in the BBC science fiction series Doctor Who, and for writing and starring in the acclaimed urban dramas Kidulthood, Adulthood and Brotherhood. He also co-created the Sky police drama Bulletproof with Ashley Walters, which ran for three series before being cancelled in 2021.
That cancellation followed a 2021 report in The Guardian in which a number of women made allegations of sexual misconduct against Clarke. He denied the claims at the time and later brought a libel action against the newspaper’s publisher. In August 2025, the High Court ruled in favour of The Guardian, finding its reporting substantially true, and Clarke was ordered to pay around £3 million towards the newspaper’s legal costs. The civil ruling is a separate matter and does not determine the outcome of the criminal proceedings.
Clarke has consistently denied any sexual misconduct or criminal wrongdoing. He denies the current charges and is entitled to a fair trial.
