WARSAW: Germany and Poland are set to further strengthen their cooperation in defence and security policy as German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius travels to Warsaw today to sign a joint defence agreement aimed at reinforcing mutual security commitments and enhancing military collaboration.
Speaking ahead of the signing, Pistorius said the agreement “strengthens our shared security and sends a clear signal reflecting the close partnership between our two countries.” He added that the accord reaffirms the two nations’ mutual assistance obligations within NATO and the European Union, while also paving the way for closer cooperation in developing military capabilities and strengthening defence industry ties.
German government coordinator for Poland, Knut Abraham, described the agreement as “a very important sign of increasingly close cooperation not only in military matters but also more broadly on security policy.” He further noted that there were “no coordination problems” between Berlin and Warsaw regarding support for Ukraine.
Both Germany and Poland reiterated their firm commitment to supporting Ukraine in the face of Russia’s ongoing aggression, underlining continued alignment on key security priorities.
The agreement is being signed in Warsaw on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the 1991 German-Polish Neighbourship Treaty, marking a symbolic milestone in bilateral relations between the two countries.
