Pakistan Claims Eight Drones Intercepted After Alleged Airspace Violation

ISLAMABAD — Pakistani security sources said on Wednesday that the country’s air defence system intercepted and destroyed eight drones that allegedly entered Pakistani airspace from Afghanistan.

According to the sources, the drones entered Pakistani territory earlier in the morning and were detected by Pakistan’s air defence system. Four of the drones were reportedly brought down in areas near the Torkham border.

The security sources described the reported incident as an attempted violation of Pakistan’s airspace and alleged that it reflected direct support and patronage of militant groups by the Afghan Taliban authorities.

They further said that Pakistani forces had targeted and destroyed positions and facilities of the Afghan Taliban in the Kurram sector the previous night.

According to the sources, Pakistan’s air defence system detected all eight drones in a timely manner and remains fully operational along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border under the supervision of the Pakistan Air Force.

The debris of the downed drones is reportedly being collected and taken into custody for further examination.
