Pakistan Lodges Strong Protest with Afghan Taliban, Summons Chargé d’Affaires Over Karachi Terror Attack

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Monday formally lodged a strong protest with the Afghan Taliban administration following the recent terrorist attack on a Rangers camp in Karachi, summoning the Afghan Chargé d’Affaires to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and delivering a stern diplomatic démarche.

According to the Foreign Office, the protest was conveyed in connection with the Karachi attack, in which Afghan nationals were allegedly involved, including one attacker who was captured alive during the security operation. Pakistan’s Ambassador to Afghanistan, Obaid-ur-Rehman Nizamani, also lodged a similar protest with officials of Afghanistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kabul.

The Foreign Office said the incident once again demonstrated that Afghan territory and Afghan nationals were being used for the planning and execution of terrorist attacks inside Pakistan.

Pakistan urged the Afghan authorities to take effective action against those responsible and address Islamabad’s security concerns with the seriousness they deserve.

The diplomatic move comes amid heightened tensions following the deadly assault on the Rangers headquarters in Karachi, which claimed the lives of three Rangers personnel. Pakistani authorities have attributed the attack to the militant group Jamaat-ul-Ahrar and maintain that one of the attackers was an Afghan national apprehended during the operation.
