Trump and Vance Rally Republicans in Dallas as GOP Faces Midterm Election Test

DALLAS: U.S. President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance have called on Republicans to remain united and mobilize voters ahead of the November midterm elections, as the party faces mounting challenges in its bid to retain control of Congress.

Addressing the Republican midterm convention in Dallas, Trump urged his supporters to turn out in large numbers and emphasized the importance of preserving Republican majorities in the House of Representatives and Senate. He sought to make the election a referendum on his administration, telling supporters to vote as though he himself were on the ballot.

The Republican Party faces significant historical and political headwinds. The president’s party has traditionally suffered losses in midterm elections, while concerns over the economy, voter enthusiasm and the administration’s policies have added pressure on Republican candidates.

Besides Vance, names including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and Texas Senator Ted Cruz are being discussed among possible contenders for the 2028 Republican presidential nomination. However, no major candidate has formally launched a campaign, and many Republicans remain reluctant to commit to a successor while Trump continues to dominate the party.
