India Temporarily Blocks Telegram Over Alleged Exam Fraud Concerns

New Delhi: India has temporarily blocked the messaging platform Telegram until June 22, citing its alleged misuse in facilitating fraud related to a medical entrance examination, the Ministry of Education said in a statement on Tuesday.

According to the ministry, the decision was taken after reports suggested that the platform was being used to “defraud candidates” appearing in the national-level medical entrance test. Authorities said the measure is temporary and aimed at preventing further malpractice during the examination period.

The government has not released additional technical details regarding the restriction but indicated that the action was necessary to safeguard the integrity of the examination process.

Further developments are expected after June 22, when the temporary suspension is set to be reviewed.
