Police Officer Shot in Foot in Nottingham City Centre as Two Suspects Flee

NOTTINGHAM, October 18 – A police officer is in hospital after being shot in the foot in Nottingham city centre early on Sunday morning, Nottinghamshire Police said.

The force said the officer approached two suspects, a man and a woman, on Angel Row in the heart of the city shortly before 4:50 am, when he was struck by a bullet. Both suspects fled the scene, and police are searching for them.

Officers recovered the firearm at the scene. Angel Row remains closed, with a large cordon and a heavy police presence in place while investigations continue.

Assistant Chief Constable Claire Rukas of Nottinghamshire Police called it a shocking incident and a sobering reminder of the dangers officers face as they work to protect the public.

The shooting has unsettled some residents and visitors. Curtis Jackson, a 22-year-old who recently moved to the United Kingdom from the United States, told the Nottingham Post that he now felt worried about being in the city at night. He also offered his sympathies to the injured officer.

Police have not yet given details of the officer’s condition or the circumstances that led to the shooting.
