Trump Says He Is “Happy” Harry and Meghan Left the United States

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has said he is “happy” that Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, have returned to Britain after spending about six years in the United States.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Trump said he had never been a supporter of the couple, adding that he was pleased they had left the United States. He described Meghan as “terribly disrespectful” while expressing his support for the British royal family.

Harry and Meghan moved to the United States in 2020 after stepping back from their official royal duties. They have recently returned to Britain with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, and are expected to live outside London. The couple will remain non-working members of the royal family.

Trump also referred to his longstanding relationship with the British royal family, saying he had good relations with the late Queen Elizabeth II and with King Charles III. The King is currently undergoing cancer treatment, according to Reuters.

The US president’s comments come amid renewed public attention on Harry and Meghan following their decision to relocate to Britain. Their return has also revived discussion about their relationship with the royal family and the British media, issues that played a major role in their decision to leave the UK in 2020.

Trump said that if he were a member of the royal family, he would not have welcomed Harry and Meghan back, underscoring his continued criticism of the couple.
