European Tour Moves to Switzerland as Omega European Masters Takes Center Stage

CRANS-MONTANA — The European golf tour heads to Switzerland this week for the Omega European Masters, which becomes the only major professional men’s tour event being held as the PGA Tour takes a break following the conclusion of the FedEx Cup season.

The tournament will be played at the scenic Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club in Crans-Montana, with a prize purse of $3.75 million and $625,000 going to the winner. South Africa’s Thriston Lawrence returns as the defending champion.

American golfer Ryan Gerard enters the tournament as the highest-ranked player in the field at No. 22 in the world. Gerard secured a third-place finish at the Tour Championship at East Lake on Sunday, adding further momentum to his breakthrough season.

Patrick Reed, ranked No. 35 in the world, will also be among the leading attractions. Reed currently tops the Race to Dubai standings and is making his first appearance at the Omega European Masters in 11 years. The tournament marks his sixth consecutive start as he continues a busy stretch of competition.

The field includes 10 players ranked among the world’s top 100, while veteran Spanish golfer Miguel Angel Jimenez is also set to compete.

The Omega European Masters is part of the European tour’s continental European stretch known as the “Back Nine,” with most of the remaining events before the season finale being staged across Europe.

Meanwhile, the Walker Cup will take place in County Clare, Ireland, this weekend, where the United States will defend its title against Great Britain and Ireland. The Americans lead the historical series 40-9-1 and have won the competition on each of the last five occasions.

The PGA Tour will resume its schedule on September 17 with the Biltmore Championship in Asheville, North Carolina, following Scottie Scheffler’s victory in the Tour Championship and his capture of the 2026 FedEx Cup.
