Far-Right Commentator Milo Yiannopoulos Detained by US Immigration Authorities

WASHINGTON: British far-right political commentator Milo Yiannopoulos has been detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after authorities determined that he had overstayed his U.S. visa, according to U.S. officials and The Guardian.

Yiannopoulos was arrested on Thursday at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport in Louisiana. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security said he legally entered the United States in May 2019 but subsequently remained in the country beyond the validity of his visa.

An immigration judge issued a final order for his removal on July 22 after Yiannopoulos failed to appear at an immigration hearing. He is currently being held in ICE custody pending deportation, with the agency confirming his detention.

Yiannopoulos is a former editor of Breitbart News and has previously worked as an intern for U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene. He was also involved in Kanye West’s 2024 presidential campaign. His presence in Louisiana reportedly coincided with a planned performance by West in New Orleans.

The detention has drawn additional attention because Yiannopoulos has previously expressed strong support for strict immigration enforcement and ICE. Far-right activist Laura Loomer has also claimed on social media that she reported Yiannopoulos to immigration authorities, although the circumstances surrounding his detention remain subject to official proceedings.

The case comes as the administration of President Donald Trump continues to intensify immigration enforcement, including action against individuals who have violated U.S. immigration rules by overstaying visas.
