Klopp Confirms Germany Talks as England Prepare for World Cup Quarter-Final

LONDON: Former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has confirmed he is in discussions with the German Football Association (DFB) over becoming Germany’s next head coach following the resignation of Julian Nagelsmann after the team’s disappointing FIFA World Cup campaign.

Speaking in New York, where he has been working as a television pundit during the World Cup, Klopp said the DFB had approached him as part of its search for a successor and that negotiations were ongoing. The former Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund boss said he felt “recharged” and ready to consider a return to coaching.

Germany’s four-time world champions crashed out of the tournament after a penalty shootout defeat to Paraguay in the Round of 32, prompting Nagelsmann’s departure and an overhaul of the national team’s leadership. Klopp has emerged as the federation’s preferred candidate to rebuild the side ahead of future international competitions.

Meanwhile, England have advanced to the World Cup quarter-finals after defeating Mexico 3-2 in a dramatic Round of 16 encounter. The Three Lions will next face Norway as they continue their bid for a first World Cup title since 1966.

The World Cup also continues with two remaining Round of 16 fixtures on Monday, with Portugal taking on Spain and the United States facing Belgium to complete the quarter-final lineup.
